The Organization of Chaos

“…When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you down like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,

you think, How can a
body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again.”

‘The Organization of Chaos in the works of Pallav Chander’, hosted by Mumbai-based APRE Art House and curated by Prerna Jain, showcases the artist’s current body of works which has been developed in the form of the artist’s personal journal. As the viewers go through the virtual exhibition, an intimate world of loss, grief, despair and angst unravels itself before them.

Applying vibrant acrylic colours, Chander renders his canvases with broken, expressionist brush strokes. It is this juxtaposition of different pictorial elements that creates a highly theatrical space in his paintings. Artist’s childhood struggle with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD has led him to create his distinct visual language as he describes, “The subjects vary from a
generalised view of different psychological aspects to my own personal experience of understanding society.”

A graduate of Birmingham City University, UK, Pallav Chander has exhibited in many prestigious art galleries in India and the UK. Other than the group shows Chander has two solo exhibitions to his credit: ‘Decoding a Dyslexic Mind’ at Visual Art Gallery, New Delhi (2014) and ‘Life Must Have Its Mysteries’ at Art4All Gallery, New Delhi(2017). His works have found their place in several esteemed collections, including Kiran Nadar Museum and Alkazi Foundation, New Delhi.

The online exhibition is currently on view on APRE Art House’s website.
