This surreal work highlights a profound allegory that is founded on the principles of an agrarian life. In the family of farmers, the social pillars of the world, buffalo have an important and sacred position and they are treated as one of the members of the family. Here, upon the death of a dear buffalo, it is led by buffalo-head human figures, as alluded to by the family of the farmer, while the frontal figure leads with the pot of smoke to initiate the final rites. The solitary buffalo, hinged to the tree, visible at the back, lost its beloved companion and the artist cultivates this symbolic visual upon this poignant incident in his family.Â
